For our final project in our design class, I was tasked with creating a short film (around 90-120 seconds) that starred an animatronic character that had 3 functions. I wanted to challenge myself to have a very strong stylistic theme. Inspired by my love of "Moonrise Kingdom" by Wes Anderson and skeletons, plus my undergraduate thesis on how we depict the character of "Death" in modern media added with the message of "adopt from shelters, don't shop for your pets" equals my funky short film, "Adopt, don't Shop." Starring Mr. Grim, a Reaper who collects souls when it's their time to go, suddenly finds himself forced into an early retirement from the only job he's ever known. Now lonelier than ever (since everyone still sees him as a "bad omen") and without purpose, Mr. Grim seeks new friends to fill the void and finally learns what this "loving unconditionally-thing" is all about. Without spoiling too much, I promise, there's not a grim ending to the story.
